One of my favorite parts about working as a realtor in Harlem is being able to discover little hidden gems that not many people know about.  Not only by walking around neighborhoods, but by talking to people who live the in area, I’ve been introduced to some of the best food, heard wonderful music, and been told some great stories.  On bright, sunny days when I’m sitting in front of my computer in the office, I’ll daydream about what I would do in Harlem if I had the day, or even just the afternoon off.

I’d start off with a late lunch at a little Mexican place I    found while walking around Washington Heights. If you crave amazing enchiladas, burritos and tacos at an authentic Mexican restaurant, try going to La Fiesta on Broadway between 157th and 158th.  The people there, both chefs and customers are incredibly friendly. Don’t forget to try their guacamole and ask for it to be spicy!

After lunch, I’d have to head over to Lenox CoffeeNow I have to admit the reason I need to go here is because I’m the co-owner (and even my fantasies about having time off still involve work)! After checking in with the shop and our baristas, I would sit down and have a beer.  We recently started a new wine and beer service with both tap and bottled beer. Come visit us on W. 129th St. between Lenox and 5th Aves.  We’d love to see you there!

After a beer or two (and probably an hour or two of work), I’d call some friends who live in the area and walk to the American Legion on W. 132nd between Adam Clayton Powell and Frederick Douglass Aves.  I almost don’t want to give away the secret of this amazing local gem.  Every Wednesday they have live jazz music and a delicious fish fry.  Other nights they have bands and DJs as well.  It’s a small place, but people find a way to dance to disco and oldies. The drinks and food alone make it worth the trip over, not to mention the music. Also, during the warmer months they have an open back patio.
