Play a bigger game in Uptown Manhattan. Volunteer Opportunities listed here:

It’s easy to get stuck in our day-to-day routines. And even easier to get fixated on working to pay rent here in New York City! Who has money to spare? Well, even if you can’t donate to your bestie’s short film Kickstarter, or pay for that quick trip to take a break down in Miami, you can volunteer your time and "Focus Out" to make a huge difference in someone else’s life. This, my friends, is a true vacation: A vacation from being in your head! Share your wisdom, time, physical strength, or book smarts with an NYC resident in need.

Here are some great opportunities I’ve pulled for you from the top of my list :)

Free Arts NYC

FREE ARTS NYC works to empower underserved NYC youth through art and mentoring programs to develop their creativity, confidence, and skills to succeed. They offer several ways to volunteer with the children in their programs, including "Free Arts Days" where you can sign up to volunteer for the day and bring joy through art to a child you are paired up with.

Next "Free Arts Day"s are:

Services for the Underserved: Urban Farming

Contact: [email protected]

The urban farming initiative at SUS touches the lives of over 500 community members that they serve in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island through therapeutic horticulture, employment opportunities, and nutritional programming. When you volunteer, you get to have fun in the dirt while also serving community members that have been provided with housing, mental health counseling, and support with their disabilities. Opportunities happen primarily in spring and summer.

East Harlem Tutorial Program

Through their public charter schools, after-school, and summer programs, the East Harlem Tutorial program has a variety of opportunities to volunteer. Ranging from homework help, mentoring, subject-matter tutoring, and college prep, volunteering with EHTP can be a one-time volunteer opportunity or something that you can commit to long term. Invest in the youth of Harlem and sign up to Volunteer HERE today!
