It’s a strange feeling when you are moving in the city and have no idea where to go. Do you spend more in rent and get a smaller apartment in exchange for being further downtown? Do you save money by moving to the outer boroughs while adding an hour to your commute and missing the feel of the city? Why not get the best of all worlds?

Washington Heights is THE place to be. According to recent figures, it is home to some of the lowest rent per bedroom in Manhattan. Aside from that, you get far more space than downtown and you are a mere 30 minutes from the heart of the city on a BAD day!

Afraid you’ll still feel like it’s an outer-borough? Think again! Over the past year, there have been nearly half a dozen wonderful businesses opening up shop in the area such as:

  • Chipotle (168 & Broadway) Case and Point. Where there is a Chipotle, what else do you really need?

  • Dunkin’ Doughnuts (170 & Broadway) For all your sweet desires

  • WaHi Diner (164 & Broadway) Inexpensive food with a clean fresh atmosphere. Perfect for Brunch

  • Heights Tavern (164 & Broadway) Sister bar to the highly acclaimed Harlem Tavern, it has amazing food and a great buzz in the air.

  • Jade Garden (170 & Broadway) Chinese food to die for. Every true New Yorker needs their go to Chinese food restaurant and this is now mine.

And all of these are just over the past year! They add more options to the already rich food & beverage community that is inhabited by great places like:

  • Starbucks (168 & Broadway) Because it’s necessary

  • Tasty Deli (168 & Broadway) Gourmet Sandwiches you will never forget

  • Coogan’s (169 & Broadway) The local bar & hangout

  • Gogo Gi (163rd & Broadway) Korean Bar-B-Q

  • Dallas Bar-B-Q (166 & Broadway) Real Bar-B-Q

  • Malecon (174 & Broadway) Caribbean Food specializing in chicken. My favorite!

  • Reme (165 & Broadway) Great for Brunch

  • 181 Cabrini (181 & Cabrini) Another Great Brunch Place

  • Le Cheile (181 & Cabrini) Because it’s New York, one more amazing Brunch Location

And many, many more. Take a trip uptown and see what it’s all about!
