Who doesn’t love an outdoor wedding? Trees. Birds. No stale air conditioning. No sterile carpeting. Or slippery wooden floors.
We are knee deep into the wedding season and what better way to celebrate the most important day of you life then among the beautiful surroundings of New York City! Thousands of couples flock to all of the public venues this city has to offer including all of the stunning parks scattered though out its boroughs.
You will be hard pressed to walk through one of the many city parks during the warm weather and not notice the Bride and Groom exchanging vows or taking wedding photos. There are so many picturesque places in these parks to get married like the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace in Central Park, or Linden Terrace in Ft. Tryon Park, or the Boat House in Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
Having once been a guest at one of these outdoor weddings- I have to say that it was a lovely experience. Even a little rainfall couldn’t hinder our friend’s nuptials. Watching the random tourists or elderly couples stare in awe at what was transpiring, felt like I was a part of a movie.
Getting married in NYC is easier than you think. Firstly, you need to obtain a license from the city clerk. The reasonably low cost is $40 and you only have to wait 24 hours before you can proceed with the marriage. And if you aren’t in that big of a rush- it only expires up to 60 days after receiving it. If you do want to use any of the public parks for your special day, a permit it also required. This process may take up to 30 days to obtain an approval. It costs $25 to process and as long as you keep the wedding guest list at a reasonable amount, there should be no additional costs.
So what are you waiting for? Get married already! It’s legal here for everyone.
